Monitoring trip in September 2014

12.10.2014 - Tanzania

We -the project coordinators for CWSSP Tanzania- went for a a monitoring trip to Mtwara from 31st August till 6th of September.

We visited all the project villages (Lyowa, Mihembe and Ding'wida) and attended hygiene and sanitation trainings. We also had thorough discussions with the district water engineer and facilitators and took part in the household visits on site. In addition we participated in a meeting arranged for villagers, officers and water committee members of five villages under the Mpapura-Lyowa piped water supply scheme which is currently under construction. It is a project managed by Mtwara District but CWSSP is supporting the local government by constructing elevated storage tank in Lyowa and supporting with trainings and capacity building.

In Lyowa the project is proceeding as planned for CWSSP's part. The primary school demo latrines have been finished and the construction of the elevated storage tank is on schedule. In Ding'wida the rainwater harvesting tank has been finalized and is in use. In Mihembe the project has not been able to implement any construction activities, as the hydrogeolocial survey carried out in 2013 left little hope of finding a sufficient groundwater source for drilling. Therefore the challenging situation of Mihembe has to be approached with other measures at the moment.
