WaterFinns jätti määräaikaan (31.3.2020) mennessä Ulkoministeriölle hanketukihakemukset kolmeen hankkeeseen 2021-2024:
Etiopia
Hankkeen päätavoite on kunnostaa kolmen kylän vesihuoltojärjestelmät Etiopian SNNPR-osavaltiossa. Projektialue kärsii esimerkiksi kuivuudesta, köyhyydestä, vedenjakelun käyttökatkoista ja vesijärjestelmän puutteellisesta ylläpidosta, jonka avuksi hankealueelle kehitetään Water Safety Plan. Samalla hankealueen asukkaiden perustietoutta hygieniasta, sanitaatiosta ja juomavedestä parannetaan koulutuksin.
Meksiko
Meksikon hankkeessamme kohdeyhteisö on mayataustaista alkuperäiskansaa, jotka elävät äärimmäisessä köydyydessä ilman terveydenhuoltoa, sosiaaliturvaa, riittävä toimeentuloa ja vedenjakelua.
Tämä projekti pyrkii rakentamaan La Casitan, monikäyttöisen yhteisöhubin ja perusvesilaboratorion, ratkaisemaan useita haasteita, jotka liittyvät kahteen teemaan: veteen liittyvään turvallisuuteen ja yhteisön vaikutusvallan lisäämiseen.
Nepal
Nepalin uudessa hankkeessa tarkoituksena on jatkaa työtämme paikallisen yhteistyökumppanimme kanssa Devchulin kunnassa Nawalparasissa. Hankkeen tavoitteena on vahvistaa alueen WASH-palveluja tasapuolisesti, laajentaa nykyisessä hankkeessamme perustetun vesilaboratorion toimintaa ja huolehtia siitä, että kunta, wardit ja WUSCit saavat riittävät työkalut kehittääkseen vesihuoltoa alueella omatoimisesti hankkeen jälkeen.
Hankkeemme keskittyvät ensisijaisesti veteen ja sanitaatioon, mutta myös naisten, lasten ja vähemmistöjen olojen parantamiseen.

WaterFinns applied support for three projects by end of March from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (2021-2024):
Etiopia
The aim of the project is to rehabilitate three water supply schemes in three villages in Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR), Ethiopia. This area suffers from i.a. drought, poverty, water service breaks, inadequate operation and management,
Rehabilitation measures will be built on Water Safety Plans (WSPs), which are deemed as the most effective means of maintaining a safe drinking water supply by the World Health Organization. The activities will also cover schooling of the inhabitants concerning water, hygiene and sanitation.
Mexico
The community, where this project aims to give support, is an indigenous people of Mayan descent who live in extreme poverty. They especially lack access to healthcare and social security services, access to basic services at home (e.g. water), and sufficient income. This project aims to build a La Casita Complex, a multi-purpose community hub and a simple water lab, that will solve challenges related to two main themes: water security and community empowerment.
Nepal
The project aims to provide the administration of Devchuli municipality tools to develop their own, even handed water supply administration system by providing analyzed and verified data from the municipality households. The target is to create improved WASH services through capacity building of the municipality WASH administration and WUSCs. On top of that, water laboratory services (established 2020) will be expanded to whole Devchuli.
All of the applied projects have the main focus in water, but also in empowerment of women, children and minorities.
We are expecting the results from MFA during autumn 2020.
