Who are we?
WaterFinns is a Finnish NGO that implements water-related development cooperation projects. We work on a voluntary basis, and operate e.g. in the fields of water resources, water supply & sanitation as well as agriculture & irrigation. At the moment we have a project going on in Nepal.
Our three major goals are to:
- promote professional know-how in the water sector in developing countries and transition economies
- help young professionals to get experience in international projects
- transfer professional knowledge and experience of Finnish senior experts to junior members WaterFinns aims to offer young professionals an opportunity to gain experience in development cooperation projects and project management.
Background
CSWASH – Climate Smart Water Sanitation and Hygiene – is a four-year project (2025 – 2028) being implemented in Devchuli, East Nawalparasi, Nepal. The project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Maa- ja Vesitekniikan tuki ry, MVTT. This project aims to improve the management of water resources, reduce the adverse impacts of climate change and improve the level of water supply and sanitation in Devchuli Municipality, Nepal. Position
We are looking for two Junior Project Managers (JPM) who will be involved in the project management and implementation as members of the WaterFinns team based in Finland and in collaboration with our partner CATN in Nepal. The JPMs will work in a team of 3 – 4 members, including both junior and senior members. The JPMs will be introduced to the project and tasks by the current project team. The senior colleagues have experience in international development cooperation projects and guide the juniors throughout the project. Within the 2,5 year assignment, it is envisaged that each Junior Project Manager will be offered an opportunity to travel on a monitoring trip to the project site.
Tasks in the project implementation phase
Tasks of the Junior Project Manager in the project implementation phase include e.g.:
- monitoring and supporting the local partner in the implementation of the project, including communication with the local partner
- monitoring visit(s) to the project area
- management and monitoring of finances and activities of the project
- reporting to the Ministry of Foreign affairs and WaterFinns board
- communication about the project in Finland, e.g. social media content creation
- other relevant tasks related to the project, e.g. technical assistance or preparing educational materials
Requirements
We are looking for a young enthusiastic and committed professional with studies in a relevant field such as water or environmental engineering, environmental policy, environmental sciences, development sciences or another relevant field. No previous experience in development cooperation is required. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Finnish is considered an asset.
Ability to travel to the monitoring trips is an asset. Members of the project team will visit the target country on an on-site monitoring trip (about 2 weeks) typically once a year.
Please note that WaterFinns works on a voluntary basis and no salary will be paid for the position. However, all costs related to e.g. monitoring trips, including daily allowances, will be covered from the project budget.
